Linda Lingle
Counsel
Since 2001 Ms. Lingle has been a Government and Public Affairs consultant. The
focus of her work has been in energy, higher education and partnership
development. Her current client base is concentrated in New Mexico and South
Carolina, but she also has supported clients located in North Dakota,
California, Arizona, Alabama, Georgia and Washington, DC.
Previously she was Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Congressional and
Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) during the
Clinton Administration. In that position, she had regular and substantive
contacts with key Members of Congress, State and Tribal Governors, as well as
other state and local elected officials. She was deeply involved with The
Foreign Research Reactor (Atoms for Peace) Program which returns spent nuclear
fuel from around the world to the Savannah River Site in Aiken SC via the port
of Charleston. This important (and ongoing) project utilized her negotiation
skills as she worked with the South Carolina Governors Office, the Naval Weapons
Station, state and local elected official and agencies and environmental groups
to ensure that the program was implemented successfully.
Prior to 1994, she lived in Charleston, SC where she was very active in the
greater community and state. Leadership positions included Chairing the Mayor's
Commission on Women; the Board of the Sea Island Comprehensive Health Care Corp;
and the Community Relations Committee. She was the Director of Development for
Trident Technical College where she was responsible for public and private
sector fundraising, government relations, alumni and marketing.
Representative James Clyburn recruited Lingle to move to South Carolina as a
Vista Volunteer. Later she was appointed by former Governor Dick Riley to the SC
Human Affairs Commission which was led by Congressman Clyburn.
Ms. Lingle has a degree in Political Science from Arkansas State University and
additional courses in Urban Studies from College of Charleston. She is also a
1987 graduate of the Leadership South Carolina Program.
