Bill Haughney
Director of Government Affairs
Bill Haughney has experience in both federal and state level government affairs. Mr. Haughney worked for the Washington D.C. office of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, where he lobbied the state Congressional delegation on behalf of the Governor’s office. He served as a legislative assistant in the office dealing with energy, environmental issues, and immigration. In this capacity, Mr. Haughney also helped manage appropriation matters for the State, including drafting the joint City of Chicago-State of Illinois priority funding requests, and lobbying for state appropriations.
In addition to his legislative duties, Mr. Haughney also served as the state liaison to the Midwest Governor’s Association and the Governors’ Ethanol Coalition (GEC). As representative to the GEC, Mr. Haughney was in charge of representing Illinois on ethanol issues, as well as assisting in setting agendas, planning meetings, and representing the GEC during Congressional visits. As the representative to the Midwest Governors Association, Mr. Haughney spoke on behalf of the state on regional issues including energy production, agriculture, and Great Lakes issues. Mr. Haughney previously worked for then Congressmen Blagojevich in his Capitol Hill office, prior to his ascension to the Governor’s office.
While working at MGA, Mr. Haughney has worked with defense and health care related clients. He works with both private businesses and local community-based organizations on appropriations requests and local policy issues in areas including economic development, transportation, and health care.
Mr. Haughney has worked on a wide variety of issues at Madison Government Affairs, including appropriations, defense, and education. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he received a degree in Political Science and Economics. He is currently studying at The George Washington University for his Masters in Public Administration.
